Koko Crater Tramway (also referred to as “Koko Crater Stairs”, “Koko Head Stairs”, “Koko Stairs of Doom”, or “Pu’u Mai Stairs”) leads to the Pu’u Mai Summit of Kohelepelepe which offers one of the most panoramic views of the Maunalua Reaion in East Honolulu.
This tramway was built with an approximately 1,055 cross-ties or”stairs” that lead adventurous hikers up a .8 mile intensely rigorous incline for an elevation gain of about 1,100 heart-pounding and lung-pumping feet.
With each storm and heavy rainfall, the integrity of the stairs is compromised. Your contribution helps preserve and maintain the trail for future generations.

Donations fund our essential supplies, including tools and hardware. They also cover insurance for our board members and volunteers, as well as any necessary administrative fees.
Volunteer
Every person associated with this project is volunteering their time and sweat to rebuild the Koko Crater Stairs. Come on out and pitch in. We are having a great time most weekdays from 7am to 12, but there are ways you can help out just as part of your climb, by carrying some gravel up the hill or helping us remove the large number of discarded rail ties cast to the sides of the trail over the years.
Contact our volunteer coordinator, or just ask any Koko volunteer there how you can help right on the spot, most of us are in bright yellow volunteer shirts.
